Docker swarm rocks

[traefik] Proxy

Traefik Proxy with HTTPS

docker network create --driver=overlay traefik-public

export NODE_ID=$(docker info -f ‘{{.Swarm.NodeID}}’)

docker node update --label-add traefik-public.traefik-public-certificates=true $NODE_ID
export EMAIL=admin@example.com
export DOMAIN=traefik.sys.example.com
export USERNAME=admin
export PASSWORD=changethis
export HASHED_PASSWORD=$(openssl passwd -apr1 $PASSWORD)

(Optional): Alternatively, if you don’t want to put the password in an environment variable, you could type it interactively

export HASHED_PASSWORD=$(openssl passwd -apr1)
Password: $ enter your password here
Verifying - Password: $ re enter your password here
echo $HASHED_PASSWORD

Next, create docker-compose.yml file

curl -L dockerswarm.rocks/traefik.yml -o traefik.yml

or create it by nano

nano traefik.yml

Deploy

docker stack deploy -c traefik.yml traefik

Check

docker stack ps traefik

Getting the client IP

If you need to read the client IP in your applications/stacks using the X-Forwarded-For or X-Real-IP headers provided by [traefik], you need to make Traefik listen directly, not through Docker Swarm mode, even while being deployed with Docker Swarm mode.

For that, you need to publish the ports using “host” mode.

So, the Docker Compose lines

ports:
    - 80:80
    - 443:443

need to be

ports:
    - target: 80
    published: 80
    mode: host
    - target: 443
    published: 443
    mode: host

You can use all the same instructions above, downloading the host-mode file

curl -L dockerswarm.rocks/traefik-host.yml -o traefik-host.yml

Or alternatively, copying it directly

version: '3.3'

services:

  traefik:
    # Use the latest Traefik image
    image: traefik:v2.2
    ports:
      # Listen on port 80, default for HTTP, necessary to redirect to HTTPS
      - target: 80
        published: 80
        mode: host
      # Listen on port 443, default for HTTPS
      - target: 443
        published: 443
        mode: host
...

and then deploy

docker stack deploy -c traefik-host.yml traefik
